SHURUQ (which means “sunrise” in Arabic) is a platform that aims to promote the music of the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region on a global scale. To achieve this goal, SHURUQ has established a music incubator that provides mentorship, professional development programs, a space for content creation, and public programming to support regional artists and advance their careers. As part of the branding process, one of the challenges was to find a way to integrate the Arabic and English names into a cohesive identity.
I consulted local artist and calligrapher Ghaleb Hawila throughout the process to find the perfect bilingual balance.
